Take a look at sketches and drawings from artist of the past and pay close attention to their line work. Your lines can be different and you can experiment with mediums and styles.
Gustav Klimt has long flowing line work while Vincent Van Gogh has short hash marks. No matter how you make a mark as long as you are paying attention to your shapes, light, and shadow you can't go wrong.
